KingsportARTS invites you to a free behind-the-scenes event as area arts organizations prepare for the holiday season.

Live from the Renaissance Center

Live music, dance, theater, and visual arts plus refreshments . . . all this for free at the Kingsport Renaissance Center during KingsportARTS’ Holiday Open House. On Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, beginning at 4 p.m. you can mingle with local arts and artists at this holiday prelude. The Renaissance Center is located at 1200 E. Center St. in Kingsport, TN.

Youth Orchestra musicians present a violin/viola duet at 4 PM on the 3rd floor atrium. Then, a Jimmie Self-directed tuba and euphonium quartet will delight visitors from the atrium with a festive performance beginning at 6 p.m. Sponsored by Symphony of the Mountains.

The Kingsport Theater Guild invites visitors into the Renaissance Center Theater (2nd floor) at 7 p.m. for an open rehearsal of its upcoming production Gargoyles, Plastic Balls and Soup.

And there is more: Artists will paint and draw in rooms 211 and 313, Voices of the Mountains and the East Tennessee Children’s Choir will hold an open rehearsal at 7:30 p.m. in room 310, costumed interpreters from Exchange Place and the Netherland Inn will make early 1800s Christmas decorations in the second-floor atrium during the event and the Cultural Arts Division will show slides of public art in Kingsport.

Symphony of the Mountains, the Kingsport Theater Guild, and the Kingsport Ballet will sell tickets for their December performances at the Open House as well; guests receive a $1 discount per ticket if they buy between 4 and 7 PM. In addition, in room 239 the Kingsport Art Guild will hold a sale of art under $50, just in time for holiday gift giving.

The KingsportARTS Holiday Open House is cosponsored by the Kingsport Cultural Arts Division, the Kingsport Art Guild, the Kingsport Theater Guild, Symphony of the Mountains (SOTM), Voices of the Mountains, SOTM Youth Orchestra, Exchange Place, the Netherland Inn, and the Kingsport Ballet.
