SYMPHONY OF THE MOUNTAINS HOLIDAY CONCERTS GET EVEN BETTER

The already popular Holiday Concerts will mark the return of tenor Carl Tanner

Kingsport, TN & Abingdon, VA – As if performances by Mountain Mission School Choir, Voices of the Mountains and Mountain Empire Children’s Choral Academy along with an indoor snow flurry and a visit from Ol’ Saint Nick weren’t enough to entice you, this year’s concerts will also feature the return of a very special guest. World famous tenor Carl Tanner will once again join Symphony of the Mountains on stage in both Kingsport, TN and Abingdon, VA.

Carl Tanner was born and raised in Virginia to very modest means and started his adult life as a truck driver. To earn extra money, Tanner moonlighted as a bounty hunter. When asked how he moved from being a bounty hunter to an opera super star, Tanner replied, “Literally, I got shot at, then chased a guy out a window. And then I thought, ‘You know, my number’s coming.’ Two weeks later I was driving my truck and I decided to move to New York to pursue opera.”

It took him almost ten years to go from working class to world class, performing at the most celebrated opera houses, including the Kennedy Center in Washington, La Scala in Milan and the Royal Opera House in London.

He first took the Eastman stage with the Symphony of the Mountains during the 2012-2013 season and his performance was met with the highest praises and is still widely talked about. Mr. Tanner was so taken with the audience and the Symphony of the Mountains that he requested another opportunity to perform in these beautiful mountains.

Prior to the concerts, Mr. Tanner will teach a MasterClass with selected vocal students at ETSU. The class will be held on Friday, December 6 at 2:00pm in Mathes Hall 107 on the campus of ETSU in Johnson City. The public is invited to come watch.

The concert will be performed on Saturday, December 7 at 3:00pm at the Toy F. Reid Eastman Employee Center in Kingsport, TN with an encore performance on Sunday, December 8 at 3:00pm at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon, VA.

The concerts will be followed by a cookie and punch reception with Santa Clause in the lobby. Everyone is welcome to join us.

Tickets are $35 and students and children are always admitted free to all Symphony of the Mountains Concerts. To purchase tickets, visit our website at www.SymphonyOfTheMountains.org or call (423) 392-8423.
