Morning, Noon and Night in Kingsport


Local photographer David Grace captures the essence of life in our region through a photographic essay choreographed to Von SuppĂ©’s masterpiece.

Also slated is the deeply gripping “Symphony No. 5″ by Shostakovich.

At the beginning of the concert, the music director and orcehstra will explain and demonstrate Shostakovich’s specific writing style, sounds, rhythms and special instruments.

Italian Tapestry

With 2015 marking the 200th anniversary of the beginning of the Italian Unification, Symphony of the Mountains will perform a romantic evening filled with the deep, rich sounds of symphony strings paired with the passion and intensity of Italian composers.

The incredible sounds will be beautifully amplified in the First Presbyterian Church. With its traditional architecture, the nave of the church boasts stellar acoustics that create the perfect location for live music to be heard and thoroughly enjoyed.

Musical selections will be:

  • Corelli: Suite for String Orchestra
  • Molinelli: Twin Legends for Violoncello and String Orchestra
    • Soloist: Mathew Wilkinson, Principal Violoncello
  • Verdi: Symphony for Strings

Youth for Youth Concert

Each year our Youth Orchestra performs a free concert for area 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. This concert is a chance for younger students to see how hard work and dedication pay off to create beautiful music.

This event is free to schools, but registration is required.

Family Concert: Let’s Dance

From the Minuet to the Macarena, dancing has a long history. This interactive concert introduces families and students to the Symphony orchestra. An outstanding arts experience that is both educational and fun.

Peace On Earth Kingsport Holiday Concert


Our fully professional orchestra, the Voices of the Mountains, 70 students from the Mountain Mission School Choir from Grundy, VA, 160 students from the Mountain Empire Choral Academy and a Singing Santa Claus will perform well-known Holiday tunes amid an indoor snow flurry.

Tenor Clark Parker made his debut as the Singing Santa in 2014 at the Symphony of the Mountains Holiday Concert in Pound, VA. With his rich, powerful voice and traditional Saint Nicholas suit, Parker was a hit with the audience and will be reprising the role of Singing Santa at the 2015 Holiday Concerts in Kingsport, TN and Abingdon, VA.

Repertoire includes favorites such as:

  • Babes In Toyland, March of the Toys
  • Sleigh Ride
  • Christmas at the Movies
  • Take A Ride With Santa
  • Jingle Bell Rock
  • Let There Be Peace On Earth
  • Must Be Santa

After the concerts, the festivities continue with a Cookie/Punch reception and a chance to visit with Santa Claus.
