Music at the Mansion

Our Gift To You: Free Concert by the Lake at UVA-Wise

Once again, Symphony of the Mountains, Pro-Art Association, the Marcia and Marvin Gilliam Foundation and UVA-Wise are joining forces to present a spectacular outdoor concert under the stars. This free concert on the Lawn by the lake at UVA-Wise is an opportunity to bring the whole family out for an evening of musical enchantment.
Repertoire will include:

This is a free concert and tickets are not required for admission. Limited seating is available, but you are welcome to bring your own seating.

Symphony by the Lake presented by Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce

Join the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce on Friday, July 26, 2013 for the Symphony by the Lake at Chetola. Always the pinnacle event of the summer season, the Symphony of the Mountains will again delight the audience!  Two opening bands, The Mountain Laurels and the Grandfather Mountain Highland Pipe Band and a spectacular fireworks display will create a perfect evening! Gates open at 5:30, opening bands begin at 5:45 & Symphony at 7:30.

Ode To Joy

Symphony of the Mountains, Voices of the Mountains, the Civic Chorale and four wonderful soloists: Jennifer Barnett – soprano, Andrew Skoog – tenor, Kevin Doherty – bariton and Jami Rhodes – mezzo-soprano, will present the final and most famous of Beethoven’s works. Written after the composer was completely deaf, Symphony No. 9 (Choral) was his final complete Symphony. Experience a memorable live performance of “Ode to Joy” as our orchestra combines with 140 voices to fill the concert hall with this beautiful masterpiece.

Lift Every Voice and Sing: African American Spirituals

Voices of the Mountains Concert – The Voices of the Mountains will take you back to the roots of the African-American Spiritual. Hear the recreation of music that built a nation of the backs of a proud people forced into servitude. The music will take you on a journey from the beginning of the African-American arrival through the emotional struggle to gain independence and freedom. Listen to the music that lifted people out of slavery and into the light.

Once In A Lifetime: Carl Tanner with Symphony of the Mountains

Join Symphony of the Mountains, Voices of the Mountains and the Civic Chorale as they welcome world famous tenor Carl Tanner to the Eastman stage. Tanner, who began his young life as a truck driver and bounty hunter in Virginia, has grown up to perform in the best opera houses throughout Europe and is coming to Kingsport for one night only. Mr. Tanner will perform operatic favorites such as “Nessun Dorma” from Turandot, “O Solo Mio,” “Vesti la Giubba” from Pagliacci, “Dein ist mein ganzes Herz” from Land of the Smiles and the famous song “Core n’grato.”

Catch A Rising Star

The 2012 Elizabeth Harper Vaughn Concerto Competition winner, Julliard student and Abingdon native Zachary Hughes will perform with Symphony of the Mountains as the Symphony makes its much anticipated return to the Paramount Center for the Arts. Repertoire will include Gioacchino Rossini’s “L’Italiana in Algeri: Overture,” Mozart’s “Piano Concert No. 27, K. 595, B-flat major” and Mendelssohn’s “Symphony No. 3, The Scottish.”
